Fizik Launches Updated Ferox 2 Carbon Gravel Race Shoes for Enhanced Comfort and Performance

Fizik has introduced its latest innovation in cycling footwear, the Ferox 2 Carbon gravel race shoes, marking a significant advancement in performance and comfort for competitive off-road cyclists. These Italian-designed shoes blend traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, aiming to meet the demanding needs of gravel and XC MTB racing.

Italian cycling shoes have long been revered for their aesthetic appeal and superior construction. Fizik upholds this legacy by consistently delivering high-quality products to the premium cycling market. The brand's shoe nomenclature, though sometimes intricate, delineates its product lines: Vento for road racing, Tempo for endurance, and Terra for gravel. The Ferox line, often associated with Terra and Vento, specifically denotes shoes built for the rigors of gravel and mountain biking.

The evolution of gravel racing has driven continuous innovation in cycling gear, and the Ferox 2 Carbon shoes are a testament to this trend. Developed in collaboration with elite athletes, including Lachlan Morton, these shoes address critical feedback regarding fit and performance. The most notable enhancement is the more anatomical shape, which includes a reduced heel drop and an expanded toe box. This redesign aims to provide greater foot mobility and alleviate stress on the ankles and calves, particularly during challenging technical descents, a welcome change for riders accustomed to the often narrow fit of traditional Italian footwear.

Beyond the improved ergonomics, the Ferox 2 Carbon shoes feature a revamped Powerstrap closure system. Simone Orlando, a Product Specialist at Fizik, highlights its thinner, lighter, and more flexible design, which distributes pressure more evenly across the foot. An innovative angled loop for the straps is engineered to enhance stability and power transfer by integrating the closure with the footbed and outsole. This system is complemented by a Boa Li2 dial for precise adjustments.

The upper material has also been significantly upgraded from a perforated fabric to a water-repellent PU-laminated material, offering increased durability and reduced weight, while integrated mesh sections ensure optimal breathability. For power transmission, the shoes are equipped with a full carbon outsole, rated 10 on Fizik’s stiffness index. This wider, lower carbon plate is designed to maximize contact with the pedal, facilitating more efficient power transfer. The outsole is finished with a rubber coating and stud fitments to ensure reliable traction on varied terrain. Weighing 295g, these shoes are lighter than their predecessors and are available in a comprehensive range of sizes from 36 to 48, including half sizes.

The updated Ferox 2 Carbon shoes represent Fizik’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of cycling shoe design, combining advanced materials and ergonomic improvements to deliver a high-performance option for serious gravel and XC MTB riders.
